A thorough audit of policy and procedures is the initial step for organizations seeking to improve their competence in working with LGBT individuals. Relevant questions regarding patient care are included in Appendix I; questions targeting the experiences of LGBT employees are in Appendix II. Agencies must spend time assessing internal readiness and addressing the needs that are discovered. Suggestions for positive organizational change are discussed in Chapter 3.
